Anti-Trump hotel to open in Washington

If we were ever questioning the extent to which President Trump was affecting the tourism industry, today we have an answer.

News from the US has reported a liberal focused, anti-Trump hotel will be opened in Washington DC in 2018.

The Eaton Workshop, slated to open in late spring of next year, is officially the first politically motivated hotel and comes from the daughter of Ka Shui Lo who founded the Hong Kong-based Langham Hospitality Group.

According to the Australian Financial Review, the hotel will house a custom-commissioned video art installation by artist AJ Schnack which will broadcast footage from the presidential elections of 2012 and 2016 on vintage style television screens.

As well as the installation, guests of the hotel will find not just a bible in their bedside table, but also a copy of the Quran and the United Nations Declaration for Human Rights.

As per the Fin, the hotel, which is situated north of the National Mall, will boast 209 rooms and is also the brand’s flagship establishment, with a second hotel to be built in Hong King and later San Francisco and Seattle.

In a statement, Lo said, “We are happy to open our doors to anyone and everyone who is curious about learning more about how we can work towards a world that is more inclusive and welcoming to all.”

“We’re hoping that our hotel revenues will propel our creative projects,” she added.

Lo likens the hotel to “a non-profit, but better”.

Room rates for the hotel are estimated to go for $200 a night.
