Business Events Geelong scores industry nod

Business Events Geelong was awarded winner of the Regional Destination Marketing Organisation category at the Victorian 2016 Meetings & Events Australia (MEA) Industry Awards, held in Melbourne recently.

The MEA Industry Awards recognise excellence and best business practice in the Meetings & Events Industry.

They encourage industry professionals to excel in the achievement of their business and personal goals, and reward those who achieve outstanding results.

This is the third consecutive year Business Events Geelong has taken out this award, winning both the State and National award in the same category at last year’s awards.

Mark Day, Convention Bureau Manager said, “Winning the award for a third year is a true testament to the hard work and dedication of the Business Events Geelong team.

“We were thrilled to receive this award and will continue to strengthen Geelong and The Bellarine region as a premier place to hold a business event.”

Business Events Geelong is now a finalist for the National 2016 Meetings & Events Australia Industry Awards being held in Sydney in May 2017. Winning the award at the National’s will see Business Events Geelong recognised in the MEA Hall of Fame.

Meanwhile, on Friday night last week, more than 80 Guests were treated to a night of discovery and indulgence at the inaugural Business Events Geelong Mystery Dinner.

Hosted at Clyde Park Vineyard in Bannockburn, the event provided an opportunity for guests to experience firsthand how close the Geelong region really is to Melbourne, with the whole evening only occupying five hours of their time.

The mystery began with a ‘Save The Date’ delivered in the form of a mysterious message in a bottle. The invite included a riddle informing guests they would be whisked away to a secret location, which remained unknown until the bus from Melbourne arrived at Clyde Park on Friday evening.

“We wanted to create excitement around the event and keep our guests guessing.” said Mark Day, Convention Bureau Manager at Business Events Geelong.

“The evening was designed to break down perceptions that the region is remote because in reality, it’s under an hour’s drive from Melbourne CBD,” said Mr Day.
