Malta’s Azure Window has collapsed according to Visit Malta’s official Twitter account.

The iconic landmark was also known as Dwerja Window, and was even used as a backdrop for episodes of Games of Thrones.

Visit Malta claims it has been described as one of the most photographed landmarks in the world, and in 1998 was added to the country’s tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The area, popular with diving enthusiasts, had reportedly been on the downfall with parts of the Azure Window collapsing since the 1980s and most recently in 2016, access to it had been restricted.
Severe storms were to blame for its final blow.
