2016 Meetings and Events Awards are now open

In order to give people more time to submit their entries the launch of the 2016 MEA National Awards has been brought forward. Entries are now being accepted announced CEO Robyn Johnson, noting that the qualifying period ending on September 30th”.

The Awards have been expanded to recognise the contribution that corporate events deliver to the meetings and events industry. “Research carried out by the Business Events Council of Australia found that corporate events represent around 75 percent of the total events held around Australia”, Ms Johnson noted.

Submissions close on the January 31, 2017 which provides ample time to complete an award-winning entry. We encourage entrants to start working on their submission early and not leave it until January and to engage all of their team to contribute.

Solomon Islands unveils tourism blueprint at SPTO regional conference

Solomon Islands’ Minister of Culture & Tourism, the Hon. Bartholomew Parapolo has underlined the priority his government is placing on tourism development and the efforts being taken to facilitate growth at the recent South Pacific Tourism Organisation Council of Ministers of Tourism meeting in the Cooks Islands.

One of three high-powered events taking place in Rarotonga – including the Council of Ministers meeting, a regional marketing meeting and the SPTO board meeting where the SIVB holds the deputy chair positon – Minister Parapolo used the opportunity to draw reference to the emphasis the government is going to in order to review and introduce tourism specific legislation.

This, the Minister said, was intended to address the governance of the Solomon Island’s tourism sector and as a result, update the country’s National Tourism Policy, facilitate growth and bring focus to bear on upgrading tourism accommodation and product.

 

Bureau’s results helping South Australia to look forward

The Adelaide Convention Bureau announced its 2015/16 annual results at its AGM held 20th October which has seen an impressive 39% increase on the previous year and sets a new record for the 42-year old company.

In the past 12 months, the Bureau has won business for South Australia worth an incredible $210 million in economic benefit giving a huge 108:1 return on investment on total operating budget to members and, which, in bringing world experts across a variety of genres to Adelaide on a regular basis presents immense opportunities for the state’s future.

Adelaide will act as host city to the 120 events successfully secured by the Bureau and its Team Adelaide partners in a highly competitive market against many other extremely well resourced national and international destinations.  We will see some 51,000 delegates head here for business events which will provide around 221,000 bed nights to our hotels.   These delegates spending $632 per day, three times that of a leisure tourist, will create and support 2,038 jobs in the hospitality, retail, events and related industries including general tourism.
