Perth to host Australian Event Awards and Symposium for 2019
Following a highly competitive search for a home from capital cities and regional centres across Australia, the Australian Event Awards has announced its partnership with Tourism Western Australia, VenuesLive and the Events Industry Association WA for the 2019 Australian Event Awards and Symposium on 16 – 18 September 2019.
“The unity presented in the bid, along with the support of Perth Convention Bureau, highlighted a destination that not only wanted to host the Awards but emphasised the value in collaboration and strategic partnerships,” said Managing Director of the Awards, Ian Steigrad.
“Taking the Awards to Perth is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the destination and gather the industry in Australia’s largest state for the three-day immersive program. Optus Stadium’s partnership with the Awards as the official Venue and Catering Partner demonstrates their enthusiasm to showcase the newest event venue and possibilities to the events industry.”
“Western Australia offers a unique location for hosting public events, business and conference groups and experiences with a difference. Therefore, it’s fitting that the Australian Event Awards and Symposium venture to Perth, to not only expand but highlight the opportunities available to the industry and deliver an Awards Ceremony which is representative of the entire nation.”
WA Tourism Minister Paul Papalia said hosting the awards in Perth provided a valuable opportunity to showcase the city’s transformation to event industry professionals from across the country, as well as Perth’s capability to host major events.
“Perth is very well placed to host this event, offering the world-class Optus Stadium as the venue, as well as some of the best-value hotel and short-stay accommodation in Australia, exciting attractions and a vibrant restaurant and bar scene.
“I’d like to congratulate Tourism WA, who collaborated with VenuesLive, Perth Convention Bureau and the Events Industry Association of WA to secure this bid.”
Perth has proven itself as a destination of choice for major events, recently hosting global football giants Chelsea Football Club and in 2019 Perth will welcome game two of the NRL State of Origin series, two games featuring the biggest football team in the world, Manchester United, in Perth this July and Australia’s only All Blacks versus Australia Bledisloe Cup match will be played at Optus Stadium. Perth also hosts a vibrant cultural events calendar including Perth Festival, Fringe World and Sculpture by the Sea Cottesloe.
The Australian Event Awards have been held every year since 2009, recognising the best events and achievements in the industry regardless of event size, audience, location or industry membership.
Previous winners have included the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, 29th Annual Byron Bay Bluesfest 2018, The Big Anxiety Festival of Arts + Science + People 2017 and 2018 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation.
The launch of the host destination, Perth, coincides with the opening of entries for 2019. Event organisers and industry suppliers can now begin their entry via the online portal at www.eventawards.com.au. Entries close on 15 July 2019.
Winners will be announced at the Australian Event Awards ceremony, to be held on Wednesday 18 September 2019 at Optus Stadium.
The Australian Event Symposium will be centred around “Creating Connections, Breaking Barriers”, brings together leaders in the industry from some of Australia’s biggest events and festivals as well as offering a variety of sessions exploring the latest event trends, communication techniques and creatively enhancing events.
Presenters at the Symposium include Gill Minervini, focusing on how to make your yearly recurring events fresh each time, how to be creative on a tight budget and unlocking your team’s skills to benefit your event; Harley Mitaros unlocks the power of visual marketing, social media integration and leveraging audience engagement while Neil Fergus, recent Event Awards Winner for Best Event Service 2018, will delve into an interactive workshop, exploring how to enhance the customer experience whilst also maintaining a safe and secure event. The full program can be found at www.eventawards.com.au
Registrations for the Symposium and Awards Ceremony are now open. In line with venturing to Perth, the Event Awards have teamed up with travel providers to offer delegates discounted travel packages from Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne and Brisbane. Packages include return flights on Virgin Australia, three night’s accommodation, full Symposium registration including a ticket to the Awards Ceremony and ground transfers in Perth.
