2019 marks a name change for The Australian Travel Awards, which will now be known more simply as The Travel Awards.

Following November’s inaugural travel industry recognition programme, the hugely successful awards generated nearly 300 entries as well as attracting 500 travel industry heavyweights to its gala ceremony in Sydney.

The name change was developed in order to better reflect the needs of the travel industry and to differentiate The Travel Awards from existing awards programmes within the industry, such as the AFTA National Travel Industry Awards.

Dan Uglow, editor-in-chief of Travel Weekly and co-founder of its parent company, The Misfits said, “With this name change we believe the awards will appeal to a broader range of the travel industry and generate greater harmony throughout”.

Jayson Westbury, AFTA Chief Executive said: “AFTA welcomes the name change as this provides a clear differentiation between the National Travel Industry Awards and The Travel Awards to ensure that everyone involved in awards in the Australian Travel Industry can easily identify and recognise the different award programs”.

The Travel Awards will be held in Sydney in late November and will be officially launched in coming months.
