Treat yourself this Melbourne Cup

Port Stephens’ newest hotel, the $15 million Mercure Newcastle Airport, will host a Melbourne Cup luncheon on the day of the big race.

Tuesday, November 3 is the big day, with the hotel also offering a discount on accommodation to offer a $310 lunch and stay package.

The 95-room hotel and conference centre opened on August 1 next to Newcastle Airport which unveiled a $14.5 million expansion of the terminal on August 28.  The hotel and airport are located in the Port Stephens region, 27km from the centre of Newcastle and 32km from Nelson Bay in the heart of Port Stephens.

Mercure Newcastle Airport’s Melbourne Cup package includes a four-course luncheon in the hotel’s Mach 1 restaurant on Melbourne Cup Day – Tuesday, November 3, 2015.

Guests will enjoy a glass of bubbles and canapes on arrival from noon and a four-course luncheon, with large screens showing race events and prizes for the best hats. The package also includes an overnight stay at the hotel after the luncheon, and is available from $310 per couple including a 15% discount on the accommodation.

The Melbourne Cup lunch on its own is also available for $80 per person.

Close to the Mercure Newcastle Airport guests can explore Australia’s biggest sand dunes on quad bikes or in tailored hummers.

Newcastle Airport is serviced by Jetstar, QantasLink, Regional Express, Virgin Australia, and FlyPelican, with 1.2 million passengers a year. Direct flights are available to Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, Gold Coast, Ballina/Byron Bay, Taree and Sydney.
