TTNQ business event executive awarded

Tourism Tropical North Queensland (TTNQ) Business Development Executive Emma Perez has won the 2016 Destination Marketing Association International prize for young leaders.

TTNQ Director of Business and Tourism Events Rosie Douglas congratulated Ms Perez who is in the United States attending the Destination Marketing Association International 2016 Annual Convention as part of her prize.

“This award is designed to recognise young leaders working in the business events industry within destination marketing organisations such as TTNQ,” Douglas said.

“Our business event unit is one of the smallest in Australia and this is a real credit to Emma who has outshone entrants around the country to take out this prestigious prize.”

Ms Perez had to submit a three-minute video on her role, the impact it makes within both the business event and broader tourism industry, the destination’s strengths and her aspirations as a future leader within the business event industry.

“I represent one of Australia’s most unique and diverse business event destinations with two World Heritage sites, an award-winning convention centre, convenient airline access from Asia, strength from a Regional Tourism Organisation and member support,” Douglas  said.

“Whether it’s filling hotel rooms, bidding for a tropical health conference or working on bucket list activity options, there is satisfaction in winning business that contributes to the local economy.

As well as registration at Destination Marketing Association International 2016 Annual Convention on August 1-4 in Minneapolis, Ms Perez received three nights’ accommodation at the conference, return travel to the US with Qantas and a $1000 contribution to additional accommodation and incidentals.

Ms Perez will also be required to present at the Association of Australian Convention Bureaux Staff Conference in September on her learnings from the convention and how these can benefit the business events sector.
