Which airport has been rated Australia’s best by Skytrax?
We’ve got something to admit.
It’s a weird fact about us that most people find perplexing.
We love airports.
Not even sarcastically, we genuinely love them.
The food courts, the comfy seats, the plethora of powerpoints and multitude of shops.
And don’t even get us started on the duty-free alcohol.
Given our strange obsession with airports, it’s understandable that Skytrax’s annual report of the world’s best airports gets us unimaginably excited.
What’s even more exciting is our rank on the list.
Sydney came in 20.
That’s right folks, Sydney Airport has been rated Australia’s best.
But before we get too ahead of ourselves, let’s break these awards down quickly.
The Skytrax World Airport Awards are voted for by air travellers in the largest, annual global airport customer satisfaction survey.
The 2018 Awards are based on 13.73 million airport survey questionnaires completed by over 100 different nationalities of airline customers during the survey period.
The survey operated from August 2017 to February 2018, covering 550 airports worldwide and evaluating traveller experiences across different airport service and product key performance indicators – from check-in, arrivals, transfers, shopping, security and immigration through to departure at the gate.
So who received top nods?

“It demonstrates how much Sydney Airport continues to improve standards of customer service to be recognised as the Best Airport in the Australia/Pacific region.”
So how did the rest of Australia fare?
Brisbane Airport trailed only slightly behind Sydney, ranked number 22, while Melbourne was voted 27.
Gold Coast was rated at number 55 and Perth 59.
Meanwhile, Adelaide Airport placed at 78, dropping down the ranking five spots from last year’s awards.
