Hawaii Tourism encourages planners to use its services

Hawaii Tourism Oceania has urged meeting and incentive planners to take advantage of its services as it outlined ambitious targets to achieve a “bumper” 2013.

At an event at Sydney’s Four Seasons Hotel this week, the tourism body’s account manager, meetings, conferences & incentives, Holly Ballard, acknowledged that many planners are comfortable liaising directly with the destination’s hoteliers.

However, she highlighted Hawaii Tourism's offer of other services such as destination support, access to its image library, assistance with planning of site inspection itineraries and the provision of collateral and promotional material to support marketing efforts.

“At the end of the day our mission is helping you to win the business for Hawaii,” Ballard said.

The first half of the year has seen a 29% rise in the number of Australians heading for Hawaii with an increase of just over 10% from the MICE sector, with numbers buoyed by an increase in air capacity along with the strength of the Australian dollar.

“In terms of trends, we are seeing a lot more MICE business looking beyond Waikiki and Oahu,” Ballard revealed. Neighbouring islands are also being increasingly used for pre and post-event activities and touring.

Meanwhile, she was unperturbed by the weakening of the Australian dollar insisting the destination continues to offer great value.

‘Especially for those who enjoy shopping and five-star hotels,” she added.

Hawaii Tourism has also recently launched a new website dedicated to the MICE sector at www.meethawaii.com.
