Jetstar Dreamliner touches down in Melbourne

Jetstar Dreamliner touches down in Melbourne

Jetstar’s first Boeing 787 Dreamliner has touched down on Australian soil, eight years after the order for the state-of-the-art aircraft was first placed.

The Dreamliner yesterday completed its delivery flight from Boeing’s Everett facility in Seattle to Melbourne via Hawaii. Upon arrival, it was greeted with a water cannon salute and speeches.

The low cost carrier confirmed the first domestic services for the new aircraft as Melbourne to the Gold Coast and Cairns with fares to go on sale soon for travel from Wednesday November 13.

The new aircraft is the first of 14 Dreamliners on order for Jetstar’s international fleet with the aircraft heralded as a “step change” in both efficiency and customer experience.

Upon taking delivery of the 787 in Seattle yesterday, Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce highlighted its benefits as its capability to burn 20% less fuel, its cabin atmosphere which reduces jetlag and its technology which minimises turbulence.

Each Jetstar 787 will be configured for 335 passengers with 21 of those seats in business class and inflight entertainment in every seat.

However, it is not the first time that the aircraft has landed in Australia, with Jetstar's long-awaited 787 debut overtaken by the start of Air India's direct 787 services from Delhi to Sydney and Melbourne in August.
