Kings Canyon bushfire recovery

Kings Canyon bushfire recovery

Kings Canyon Resort in the Northern Territory will reopen today after bushfires forced the resort to close its doors last week.

Around 120 staff and guests were evacuated from the resort last week after bushfires swept through the area. Staff fled to safety in Alice Springs for two days, while all bookings were cancelled as a result of fire damage.

In a statement issued last week, operator Delaware North Companies confirmed that the property had sustained minor damage, but would re-open today following a thorough safety assessment.

"The structural damage to the property was fortunately minimal and does not impact on the guest accommodation or public areas," the statement read.

Staff returned to the resort last week to clean up damaged caused by ash and smoke. However, the nearby Watarrka National Park and Kings Canyon Rim Walk will remain closed until further notice as authorities continue to monitor the situation.
