Meeting & Events Australia (MEA) has launched new online special interest groups (SIGs) to allow attendees of MEA2014 to continue the conference’s discussions throughout the year.

Accessible through the MEA website, the SIG forums are moderated by MEA members and participants will receive emails when new discussions and comments are posted to the forum.

 

InterContinental Hotels Group has appointed Giovanna Lever as the new director of marketing for its new InterContinental Sydney Double Bay property, effective May 26.

Joining IHG from Tourism Australia, Lever will lead the property’s commercial marketing and communications direction, growth and development.

The property is expected to open in the fourth quarter of this year.

 

Inspire EX has announced that Dr Jason Fox will host a session on gamification in the workplace at the 2014 event industry tradeshow.

Fox is a motivation strategy and design expert, and his presentation will demonstrate how to design work experiences that are inherently motivating, and don’t require incentives or rewards.

 

InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa has announced the appointment of Erik Stuebe to the role of area general manager, to be based at the luxury resort in Natadola Bay.

Stuebe joins the InterContinental off the back of founding his own Hotel Management consultancy firm for independent hotels, following a 14-year stint with Accor hotels. 

 

United Airlines will increase its upcoming non-stop Melbourne-Los Angeles service from six times weekly to daily from March 12, 2015.

The service, which launches on October 28, will be operated with the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.

“We’re delighted about increasing the frequency on Melbourne-Los Angeles to daily from March next year,” United’s managing director Japan and Pacific sales Matt Miller said.

“This announcement further demonstrates United’s strong commitment to the Australian market. We’re proud to offer our customers a competitive product, enhance their flying experience through improved inflight comfort and provide them with even greater connectivity to the US.”

 

Zurich has opened a new airport hotel to cater for short-term, transit and business travellers.

The four star Dorint Aiport-Hotel  Zurich features 235 large rooms and is located two km from the airport and 10km from the city centre.  Room rates start at $120(AUD) per room per night. 

 

The Hong Kong Tourism Board will be holding events and festivals as well as offering a range of shopping and dining deals as part of the city’s annual Summer Fun festival.

The festivities will include the international arts carnival, dragon boat races and a beer and music festival.

The HTKB are also offering offer a range of packages, available for travel throughout the event period of June 27 until August 31.

 

Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort, Pattaya have added Events Butlers to its specialist event management staff.

The move comes as a signal to planners and organizers that every meeting and event staged at the five-star resort will be defined by 24-hour service commitment and responsiveness.

"We decided to add Events Butlers to our team so that planners would be confident we are taking care of even the tiniest detail," said the Centara Grand Miage Beach resort general manager Robert J Lohrmann.

 "Planners will have 24/7 support, right from inception through to the post-event analysis."
