From July 22, Tigerair Australia will cease services from Sydney and Melbourne to Alice Springs due to “an unsustainable level of consumer demand”, with its Melbourne-Sunshine Coast route also to be axed.

“We have been flying to Alice Springs and to Sunshine Coast for just over a year now and we have worked closely with our tourism and airport partners to promote these services,” chief executive Rob Sharpe said.

While we have seen some market stimulation, it is unfortunately not enough to sustain our services to Alice Springs and Sunshine Coast at this time.

“The commercial reality is we are a volume business and to build a sustainable business in the Australian domestic market we need to see a sustainable level of demand for our services.”
