Japan has launched a new MICE Ambassador Program with an initial line-up of eight “well-qualified, influential and passionate” ambassadors.

Their role is to promote Japan as a world-class conference destination, communicate the importance of business events and support bidding for, and hosting of, international conferences in Japan.

Japan Tourism Agency and the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) will support the Ambassadors' activities by helping with the preparation of bid documents, site inspection and reception hosting.

The second phase of a promotional campaign to entice visitors to the Whitsundays began this week, as the destination’s tourism marketing body spreads the word that it is open for business in the wake of Cyclone Dylan.

Whitsundays Marketing and Development Limited (WMDL) acting chief executive Daryl Hudson confirmed that the region had experienced “minimal damage” and that improving conditions had seen flight services and island ferry transfers resume over the weekend.

Virgin Australia will add an additional four flights per week between Bundaberg and Brisbane and an extra eight flights per week between Moranbah and Brisbane to support growing demand.

The flights will be operated by fuel efficient, 68-seat ATR Turboprop aircraft.

The airline will also retime some of the existing services to Moranbah and Bundaberg to “better meet the needs of the market”.
