SCEC Australia Day feast

The Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre (SCEC) played host to 1500 guests last week for Australia’s largest corporate lunch.

Now in its 25th year, the annual Australia Day Lunch has been held at the SCEC every year since its inception in 1988. Fittingly, the event also coincides with the centre’s 25th anniversary this year.

After months of planning, this year’s lunch featured a three course menu created by the centre’s executive chef, including sugar-cured salmon, duck confit and quail breast pie.

Exhibition halls were transformed over four days to create sets and theming, and six satellite kitchens were moved in to prepare and plate thousands of dishes served on the day.

SCEC chief executive Ton van Amerongen said the centre has been “at the heart” of Sydney’s Australia Day celebrations for a quarter of a century.

“The Australia Day Lunch is just one of many events that have returned to the Centre year after year, and we’re proud to celebrate each one of them as part of our 25th anniversary,” he concluded.
