A survey of Australia’s largest ever Indian incentive group has demonstrated the benefits of business events for both tourism and the economy.

The Amway India Leadership Seminar held in December, saw 4,000 delegates converge on the city.

According to the study, 91% of respondents were satisfied with the city’s conference facilities.

In addition, 95% said they felt welcome and safe in the city, while the same number said they would recommend Melbourne to friends and family as a place to visit. It also found that 79% said they would return for a holiday.

On average, each respondent spent $941 on activities which included retail, dining and entertainment.

Melbourne Convention Bureau chief executive, Karen Bolinger, underlined the survey’s findings as a strong evidence of the value of business events.

“Along with direct impact on tourism and the economy, the seminar will also contribute to Melbourne’s profile on the world stage, with delegates speaking highly of Melbourne’s infrastructure, accommodation, transport and convention facilities,” she said.

“Thanks to this event, Melbourne now has thousands of advocates promoting the city across India.”

The group of 4,000 represents the largest Indian incentive group ever hosted in Australia.
