Visa-free travel policy pays off for Guangzhou
By admin

At a Sheraton on the Park dinner in Sydney this week, tourism industry representatives revealed that almost 40% of travellers who stopped over in Guangzhou on a visa-free policy were from Australia and New Zealand.

The visa-free policy came into action in August last year and allows passengers travelling on China Southern’s Canton Route to spend up to 72 hours in China’s province of Guangdong.

It was introduced to encourage more international travellers to enjoy the attractions of the region, with Guangzhou Tourism and China Southern working together to introduce short-stay packages to showcase the citry's best.

Talking to more than 100 travel agents and media at the dinner event, Guangzhou Tourism director general, Mr Zhu Li, revealed that visitors from 30 different countries had taken advantage of the policy since it had come into force.

Guangzhou today is China’s third largest city for tourism, having registered more than 50 million visitor nights last year.
