Weddings pose huge tourism sell for Fiji

Weddings pose huge tourism sell for Fiji
By admin

Getting married in Fiji could soon be more popular than getting married at home, with Tourism Fiji backing weddings as a “huge opportunity” to boost tourism.

Speaking at the recent Fijian Tourism Expo, Tourism Fiji director of global marketing, Ken Freer, said exhibitors actively seeking wedding business was just one example of Fiji’s strong potential in the sector.

“Weddings are a part of our mix that is definitely growing,” said Freer.

“Many of our key resorts are holding upwards of 100 weddings per year, and reporting capacity for increasing that number.”

One contributor to the growth of weddings being held in Fiji is the quality of wedding services now available in Fiji.

Events such as the Fijian Tourism Expo are consistently showcasing more wedding-related services, including resorts, planners, photographers and hospitality businesses.

Tourism Fiji continues to endorse Fiji as more than just a beachside “fly-and-flop” destination, by highlighting the benefits of holding your nuptials on the island.

“Weddings held in Fiji have increasingly extended beyond short-stay ceremonies and celebrations, to also incorporate the pre-wedding gatherings and honeymoons,” said Freer.

The opening of the Denarau Island Convention Centre also increases the scope for wedding planners and patrons, adding to the range of indoor and outdoor venues designed to cater for weddings.

Freer cited these efforts of Tourism Fiji as key drivers in the move to boost tourism, with a growth in demand of wedding-related services just the beginning of the trend.

“The feedback we’re getting from exhibitors at Fijian Tourism Expo is that this message is really sinking in in our key inbound markets, particularly short-haul out of Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia.”
