Adelaide has secured the rights to host the 2023 Australian Tourism Export Council’s (ATEC) industry and trade gathering Meeting Place in October, a first for the city.

Held in Cairns in 2022, the event will see up to 500 industry figures such as tourism sellers and buyers attend the three day event that features a number of meetings, conferences and a gala dinner.

This year’s event is receiving support from the South Australian state government, the South Australian Tourism Commission, Adelaide Airport and the Adelaide Economic Development Agency.

“Hosting Meeting Place is a great opportunity for the state and city to reinforce its tourism offering as international visitors start to re-engage with destination Australia,” MD, ATEC, Peter Shelley, said.

“Meeting Place is an exceptional platform for showcasing South Australia, bringing together the people who sell Australia to the world and delivering them right to your front door.”

“While we’ve seen strong growth in international visitor spend in [the] latest data, well ahead of predictions – we still have a way to go, which is why we’re doing everything we can to continue to rebuild this valuable market,” tourism minister, South Australia, Zoe Bettison, said.

“Hosting ATEC Meeting Place provides an opportunity to showcase South Australia directly to those who will help sell it internationally, playing an important role in the recovery of our state’s international visitor expenditure to $1.2 billion by December 2025 – and helping drive it more boldly towards our 2030 target of $3.3 billion.”
