Airline introduces new product to make flying easier for tall people
Air New Zealand is introducing a new extra-legroom option in its economy class, so if you’re a bit on the tall side, or just like a bit of extra space, the Kiwi airline has got you covered.
Economy Stretch offers a roomy 35-inch pitch seat and is expected to be rolled out on all Air New Zealand operated long-haul flights from late 2020.
While passengers won’t receive the wider seats, extra six-inch seat pitch or upgraded food and wine options of Premium Economy, they will get some premium amenities such as a premium headset and plush pillow.
The airline’s new product allows it to join the ranks of competitors like Qantas and Virgin Australia, who both rolled out extra-legroom products in 2017.
Air New Zealand is currently reconfiguring its Boeing 777-200, 777-300 and 787-9 aircraft to fit a stretch zone at the front of the Economy cabin, with up to 42 of these spacious spots.
Economy Stretch is the airline’s latest innovation since it introduced its groundbreaking Skycouch, which turns a row of three seats into a make-shift bed, earlier this year.
“We know one size doesn’t fit all and we want customers to have a fantastic experience, whatever the cabin,” the airline’s chief revenue officer, Cam Wallace, said.
“Economy customers told us they want more space and comfort and we’re looking forward to giving customers a new option when travelling long haul.”
“While our premium cabins will remain the first choice for those wanting all the luxuries, Economy Stretch is a step-up at a competitive price, and we’re confident it will appeal.”
