Applejack Hospitality set to open RAFI URBNSURF diner at Olympic Park

Applejack Hospitality has unveiled its restaurant offering RAFI URBNSURF which is set to open in Homebush surf park, in Sydney’s west, on Thursday, 25 July.

Applejack Hospitality said RAFI URBNSURF will be an elevated dining experience with panoramic views overlooking the rolling sets of the lagoon and across the park.

Set on the upper level and accessible without entry into the surf park, the 165-seater restaurant features retractable windows and rooftop terrace, with views across the park and its surroundings.

Executive chef at RAFI & Applejack URBNSURF, Matias Cillóniz, in collaboration with Applejack’s director of culinary, Patrick Friesen (ex Merivale), has curated a menu with a focus on responsibly sourced seafood, vegetables, and grass-fed meats.

“At RAFI, we focus on serving the best seasonal and local ingredients,” Cillóniz said. “Our menus feature fresh produce from small Sydney farms, as well as top-quality seafood, beef, and cheese from across Australia. Each dish highlights the essence of the season and the stories of our producers. This commitment to quality and local sourcing will continue at RAFI URBNSURF.”

Crowd favourites from RAFI North Sydney will feature on the menu, including South Coast tuna. Other highlights include RAFI’s Raw Platter for two with East33 premium Sydney rock oysters, wild caught Bermagui yellow fin tuna, kingfish from Spencer Gulf SA and NZ trevally.

The  cocktail menu, by RAFI bar manager Cameron Freno, will showcase closed-loop sustainability, with  unique offerings including the Sub-Zero Oyster Martini and Sub-Zero burnt butter and pecan Old Fashioned. RAFI North Sydney’s most popular drink, the Fragola Fizz, will also get a revamp at Homebush. The wine-list will feature global wine icons and famous Champagne houses.

Interiors by Luchetti Krelle reference the Northern Rivers region of NSW with natural timbers and earthy tones, highlighted by stone with silvery blue swirls and copper markings. Aged brass lighting accents by NSW maker, Transmitt, will add warm amber patina throughout.

Grounding the main dining area is an expansive wool carpet by First Nation’s artist, Colleen Ngwarraye, featuring abstract symbols of bush medicine herbs (representing body markings traditionally painted upon singing and dancing women celebrating the power of natural remedies).

Flowing from the inside to the outside, a covered dining area overlooks the surf, featuring a range of raised tables and banquettes. Adjoining the restaurant is the Surf Suite, a multi-purpose events space catered by RAFI with the same waterside vista. Sandy’s casual eatery is also available downstairs.

“We’re thrilled to finally announce the official launch date for RAFI URBNSURF, the second site for our iconic hatted restaurant in North Sydney,” Applejack co-owner and director, Ben Carroll, said.

“Led by chef Matias Cillóniz, our menu celebrates local produce and sustainability, and RAFI URBNSURF Sydney offers a premium dining experience, blending sophistication with a coastal feel.”
