Arnold Schwarzenegger shares old-school, isolation-friendly home workout

Looking for a workout to terminate your love handles? Stick around.

With gyms closed to halt the spread of COVID-19, Hollywood actor, former governor of California and seven-time Mr Olympia winner Arnold Schwarzenegger has shared a workout that just about everyone can do at home.

“Almost everything happening around the world right now is out of our control. Almost everything. Instead of worrying about the things we can’t change, let’s focus on the things we do control,” Schwarzenegger said in a Reddit post.

“Even without a gym, we can also control our physical fitness during this pandemic.

“Body weight or freehand training is the oldest method in the world.

“Gladiators and Vikings didn’t have gymnasiums. I started my own fitness journey with chin-ups on a tree branch by a lake in Austria.”

The former professional bodybuilder’s workout consists of a routine of body weight, or freehand, exercises, which begins with 25 push-ups for beginners and 50 for more advanced trainers.

It then progresses through a series of exercises including dips and rows between chairs, sit-ups, bent-leg raises, twists, squats, calf raises, and chin-ups.

“If an exercise says 50 reps, you are doing 50 reps however you can,” Schwarzenegger said, emphasising that the focus should be on perfect form with each repetition.

“We’ll get through this together and, hopefully, we’ll all emerge in a few weeks fitter than ever. Let’s do this.”

To assist you in making sure you get the exercise just right, there are even a bunch of old-school Arnold images showing how to do them correctly.
