Big Cheese: Michelle Papas, Director of Marketing and Buyer Relations, Luxperience and Events by Luxperience

The Nibbler chats to Michelle Papas from Luxperience and Events by Luxperience about the industry challenges, events and why she loves her job.

The great thing about my job is…working with such a great team, our industry partners and meeting the upper echalon of the global travel industry.  We are working in a fascinating and constantly morphing industry so you are forever learning and expanding experiences.

The challenge for industry is…managing expectations, keeping relevant and being innovative.

My greatest achievement is… meeting and building wonderful relationships with some of the best people in the travel and events industries from around the world.

The biggest thing in MICE this year will be…the constant development of more, high quality experiential properties and experiences to feed the demanding MICE industry which constantly needs to up the new, unique ‘wow’ factor for its clients.

I try to relax by…escaping to places I where don’t  take my phone or ipad like yoga classes, walking the dogs along the beach and dining out with friends.

I don’t understand why… in this day and age mobile phones still cut out.

My favourite venue is… The Australian Technology Park is the ideal location for an event or exhibition such as Luxperience. It has a wonderful edgy atmosphere and provides a multitude of event spaces in an emerging and exciting Sydney neighbourhood.

I’ve always wanted to travel to… I’ve just returned from Greece, a destination I love and will continue to visit but I’ve always wanted to go to Belize and Scotland.

I am scared to death of… cockroaches – the big ones!

I can’t live without… catching up with friends and family.

I really wish I had… more time in the day to accomplish everything on my to-do list.

If I could invite four people to a dinner party, they’d be… Coco Chanel; Andrew Denton; Groucho Marx; Joanna Lumley.

For anyone starting out in the industry one piece of advice I’d give would be… always try to see the other persons perspective and appreciate everyone has an important role to play  in the bigger scheme of things.
