Crystalbrook appoints GM for Byron at Byron, opens Flynn property

Crystalbrook Collection has announced the appointment of Jordan Rodgers as general manager of its Byron at Byron resort.

Rodgers brings over 20 years of experience to the role, having held a number of senior leadership positions across the hospitality industry in Australia, most recently as general manager for Thredbo ski resort.

In his new role, Rodgers will lead the operation of the recently refurbished 92-suite Byron at Byron resort.

Crystalbrook Collection’s interim CEO and group director of hotels, Geoff York, said: “Jordan is a highly-experienced hospitality leader who embodies an enthusiasm to animate the Crystalbrook brand values and deliver remarkable experiences for our guests.”

Commenting on his appointment, Rodgers said: “I love the brand and its responsible luxury positioning. To join a group of people who like to do things a little differently and, most of all have a bit of fun, was very appealing to me and Byron Bay – it’s a dream destination.”

Rodgers is the latest appointment for Crystalbrook’s Byron at Byron team, having gone on a hiring spree ahead of the resort’s reopening back in September.

In other news, Crystalbrook’s third Cairns property, Flynn, officially opened its doors on Tuesday, after having to delay its launch – originally set for April 2020 – due to the impacts of COVID-19.

“Crystalbrook Collection is an integral part of the cultural landscape of Cairns, and we are thrilled to complete the trio in Far North Queensland with the opening of Flynn,” York said.

“With the hope that all Australians will be welcome in Queensland by Christmas, the opening of Flynn is part of our ongoing commitment to support and invest in the Australian tourism industry.”

Situated on the Cairns Esplanade Boardwalk, Flynn features 311 rooms and suites, many with jaw-dropping views of the Coral Sea, two glass pools, an Eléme Day Spa and 24-hour gym.

The hotel’s ground-level restaurant, Boardwalk Social, opened in January; while its signature restaurant, Flynn’s Italian, is due to open in the coming months.

Also set to join Cairns’ food and beverage scene will be Flynn’s sophisticated Whiskey and Wine Bar, featuring an expansive selection from boutique Australian whiskey producers, local and imported wines, home-style delicacies, and a spread of modern Australian snacks.
