Fintech conference targeted by Bitcoin scammers

Bitcoin as a bait. Blockchain cryptocurrency trap. Free money concept. Bitcoin on the hook. Copy space.

A global fintech conference has been the target of a Bitcoin scam ahead of its hybrid kick-off date in November.

The Singapore Fintech Festival issued a warning via email to attendees on 13 July that scammers posing as the event’s organisers were promoting a bitcoin giveaway, according to Information Age.

“It has been brought to our attention that a sender posing as an official blog of the Singapore FinTech Festival has been offering a bitcoin giveaway and soliciting responses from recipients to their giveaway,” the email said.

“We wish to remind everyone that letters, emails, or mobile phone messages, offering such services are fraudulent and should be ignored.”

The conference, which is run by Singapore’s central bank, the Money Authority of Singapore (MAS), said it would take legal action against those responsible.

Last year, the Singapore Fintech Festival boasted an all-star line-up featuring Bill Gates, Prime Minister Scott Morrison and CEOs from Microsoft and Google.
