Gold Coast Games boost business events

Sport related conferences are on the rise in a positive spin-off for business events on the Gold Coast as the city prepares to host the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Over 11,700 delegates are attending 29 sport related conferences and meetings, with associations and corporate groups keen to soak up the atmosphere of the host city. It’s estimated that these sporting affiliated business events have a direct economic impact of over $28.4 million to the Gold Coast economy.

According to Director of Gold Coast Business Events, Anna Case, the city is experiencing renewed interest from sporting organisations as flow-on opportunities are created for business, trade, investment and tourism.

“The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games is the largest event that Australia will see this decade and the opportunities for business events to tap into the spin-off benefits the event generates is very exciting,” she said.

“We’re seeing an incredible injection of new infrastructure which will bring a lasting legacy to the business events industry with new event space, upgraded venues and unique, money-can’t-buy experiences for groups.”

“We’re in the best position now to take advantage of the international focus on the Gold Coast with a renewed offering for groups to meet here. All of the new facilities being built will offer more choice for business events and the city is looking better than ever with extensive redevelopment of public spaces,” according to Case.

The Gold Coast is being transformed with millions being spent in enhancing parklands incorporating artwork, paving, recreational spaces and pavilions. A new cultural precinct is also planned to become the Gold Coast’s hive of arts, culture and creative expression.

The surge in development and infrastructure is set to enhance what is already on offer for business events and Gold Coast Business Events is working closely with sporting groups to attract more conferences and meetings pre and post Games.
