ICC Sydney creates in-house event logistics department

The International Convention Centre (ICC) Sydney has recently expanded upon its material management throughout the venue by launching an internal event logistics department.

Bringing this service in-house will enable the team at ICC Sydney to continue to provide the service previously offered by Agility to its clients and maintain the requirements for the safety, security and care of the building, according to a statement by the venue.

The event logistics department is responsible for the porterage of event materials to and from ICC Sydney, loading dock and tenanted spaces within the venue.

The recently launched team will provide services for the ICC Sydney building, including manning of the dock within designated hours, acceptance of organiser materials with appropriate notice, forklift services, forklift hire and the venue’s own loading dock management system (LDMS) for organisers to schedule vehicles for their event.

Under ICC Sydney’s current process, contractors, production companies and event suppliers are able to deliver organiser materials to the dock as well as manage the movement of their own materials to the event space. For safety reasons, an event logistics team member will be required to oversee these movements.

With the required notice, ICC Sydney’s event logistics department is able to unload trucks and/or facilitate forklift hire at an additional fee. The venue’s procurement department will continue to service deliveries from it food and beverage suppliers.

With the new process, ICC Sydney is still encouraging event organisers to utilise the services of their preferred freight forwarders.

In relation to the delivery of materials, exhibitors can book through the event organiser’s allocated freight forwarder. If no freight forwarder is appointed, exhibitors can self-deliver or courier with porterage booked through the organiser or hand carry via the car park for smaller items.
