MCEC to invest in tech transformation

Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) will embark on a core system uplift of its finance and events management systems in the first quarter of 2020.

Director of information technology Celeste Johnston said MCEC is on a journey embracing the digital age in a bid to enhance customer and visitor experiences and improving employee satisfaction.

“Following a review of our core systems, MCEC has committed to embarking on a tender process to acquire ‘best of breed’ technical solutions,” Johnston said.

“It’s an exciting time and everyone is looking forward to building and embracing our digital future.”

Recently, MCEC made headlines for its role in providing bushfire relief for residents of Mallacoota in East Gippsland.

A spokeswoman from the exhibition centre confirmed to The Nibbler that more than 200 people and 15 dogs were provided transition assistance.

“Like all Australians, Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) has a desire to help in any way possible,” CEO Peter King said at the time.

“Our thoughts go out to those who have been affected by these catastrophic events.”

The announcement came abreast of multiple reports of members of the MICE community rallying behind communities affected by the bushfire crisis.
