Coronavirus may have halted in-person events, but it won’t stop Meetings & Events Australia (MEA) from celebrating the industry’s best and brightest.

The organisation is going virtual for its annual national awards, with the ceremony to be held at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre’s studios on Friday 29 May and broadcast live by webstream.

MC Shelly Horton will head the show, with special guests and live entertainment throughout the event, aptly renamed the ‘MEALIVE 2019 Awards’.

The awards will combine both state and national achievements, celebrated across four broad categories: events of the year, company, individual, and the Outstanding Contribution Award.

A further three industry awards will also be offered across education and training, event legacy and innovation.

The awards night will culminate in Platinum Awards that recognise three national winners who achieved the highest point scores in the ‘Event Company of the Year’, ‘Event of the Year’ and ‘Event Professional of the Year’ categories.

To add a bit of glitz and glamour to the industry’s night of nights, there will also be a virtual red carpet, including in a best-dressed competition.

For those who had already purchased tickets to the state or national awards, MEA advised that payment can be credited towards the awards ceremony broadcast.

Any balance remaining may be used for additional tickets or credited against MEA’s other professional development, membership, advertising and marketing, Evolve, or networking events until 30 June 2021.

The MEALIVE 2019 Awards will be broadcast at the following times on Friday 29 May:

  • NSW, Queensland, Victoria, ACT and Tasmania: 6pm-8pm
  • South Australia and the Northern Territory: 5:30pm-7:30pm
  • Western Australia: 4pm-6pm)

Tickets are available now and can be purchased here.
