RIP Charli: Aussie hotel’s resident puppy mauled to death

In very sad news, the resident puppy of Adelaide’s newest hotel has passed away after being attacked by another dog.

In a statement on its Facebook page last week, Oval Hotel said Charli was attacked while on her evening walk in a suburban area on Tuesday and, “despite the best veterinary treatment”, succumbed to her injuries the following day.

“It is with heavy hearts that we have to advise that we have said goodbye to Charli, our beautiful Oval Hotel puppy, who passed away today,” the statement read.

“Charli had quickly become part of the fabric of the hotel and was loved by all. To lose her in such a way is heartbreaking.

“We will miss her so much.”

Oval Hotel noted that the tragic incident has been reported to the appropriate authorities.

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel had already proven to be a hit since Oval Hotel began welcoming guests last month, with manager Mieke Sellers telling Adelaide Now in September that the inspiration for having Charli as a welcome dog came from South Australian wineries.

Sellers also told the News Corp publication that Oval Hotel had been working closely with the RSPCA to develop a care plan to ensure Charli was safe, happy and well trained.
