Skye Suites: Sydney’s innovative trio of long term hotel accommodation
Skye Suites has taken luxury apartment-style accommodation to a new level in Sydney, and thanks to the rise in bleisure travel (business leisure), they are positioned at the forefront of a market that many believe is only going to continue to grow.
One of the key things going for the Skye properties is the savvy locations that have been chosen.
Parramatta is regarded as Sydney’s second CBD, and with the arrival of Skye Suites Parramatta in 2017, the company was ahead of the curve, becoming the first luxury apartment-style hotel in the area. There is also the city property, located just minutes from Wynyard station and Circular Quay which makes it a hot spot for corporate travel.
The Green Square property is possibly the best spot for ‘bleisure’ travellers, conveniently situated just minutes from Sydney Airport and just one stop from Central Station, the property features all the Skye hallmarks including mesmerising design and lush finishes as well as an incredible infinity pool.
The area has seen significant changes in recent years, from what was a small scale industrial heartland with a number of warehouses, it is now a bustling hub boasting new bars, restaurants and close proximity to some of Sydney’s lesser known tourist attractions such as brewery tours in the inner west or vintage shopping in Newtown and Alexandria.
And it’s more than just a great hotel room. It’s a place to call home for a few days, unpack, unwind and feel as if you’re in the comfort of your own home, whilst still having the perks of hotel life.
“I think what COVID taught everybody is that you need to be adaptable, not only on an individual level but also on a personal level,” director of sales and marketing, Skye Suites, Ari Foo, told Travel Weekly.
Skye Suites has done just that and adapted to the modern needs of the everyday traveller. Rooms are large, 46 square metres in the leading ‘studio room’, compared to around 25 square metres in the average CBD hotel room.
They are also equipped with a washer and dryer, small gas cooktops and ovens, full-size fridges, ultra-comfortable beds and clean working spaces meaning guests can be totally independent, especially appealing to those with extended stays at the hotel.
Skye has become somewhat synonymous with Australian reality TV in recent years with hit programs such as Married at First Sight and Beauty and The Geek entering into partnerships with the chain to have contestants stay onsite.
Ari Foo (who previously worked at a larger hotel chain) said the marketing budget available meant he needed to be smarter with how the money is spent.
“One of the challenges for us being a small brand is how do you get brand exposure?” Foo said.
“Any paid advertising is expensive, so then you have to look at partnerships. “
“So having that partnership with MAFS, every episode has around 1.9 million views, so over a week, if your logo is shown once per episode, and it’s often more than that, you’re getting around 7 million eyes on brand without having to spend that big advertising dollars.”
“For us it’s finding those right partnerships where we can give them the support and the flexibility that they need and it becomes a really mutually beneficial agreement.”
“MAFS need an apartment style product, they are living in, so a regular hotel room is not going to work, we have a product that aligns with that they need.”
It would be easy to look at any of the three Skye properties around the city and acknowledge the design and luxurious features, but behind it is a team of hardworking staff who are revolutionising what it means to provide apartment-style hotel accomodation to the business and leisure customer.
A stay at a Skye Suites property means you are not only provided with a classy, modern and eye-catchingly unique hotel room. It also means you are afforded with all the comforts of your own home, easy access to trains and other forms public transport and everything you need to work effectively from your room without sacrificing any five star luxurious.
