Splendour In The Grass revealed as Australia’s most hyped festival

As Australians flock to the Northern Hemisphere to make the most of the summer months, British hotel chain, Premier Inn has created a new index to find out which 2023 music festivals have the most hype this year.

The index looked at combined Spotify streams for the top five headliners at over 100 festivals, alongside Google searches for ‘[festival name]’, ‘[festival] + tickets’ and ‘[festival] + line up’ and considered each festival’s attendance capacity to unveil the most anticipated festivals for 2023.

The results reveal that Poland’s Open’er Festival is the most anticipated musical event of 2023. Open’er is set to feature Lizzo, Lil Nas X, SZA, Arctic Monkeys and Kendrick Lamar this year, who receive a combined 212.9 million Spotify listeners each month.

Two fellow European festivals round off the global top three, with Roskilde Festival in Denmark and Electric Picnic in Ireland ranking in second and third place respectively. Roskilde boasts headliners Kendrick Lamar and the pop icon Lizzo among others, as well as championing sustainable initiatives and wonderful art to satisfy the eco and cultural festivalgoers.

Meanwhile, Ireland’s Electric Picnic also plays host to headline stars such as Billie Eilish (54 million monthly Spotify listeners), who drew in 100,000 attendees for her first-ever headline show at Glastonbury in 2022.

While European festivals dominate the top three and make up half of the top 15, three American festivals feature in the global list: Alabama’s Hangout Music Festival (fourth), which features music legends the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Paramore, When We Were Young in Las Vegas (fifth), and New York’s Governors Ball (10th).

The only Oceanic festival to feature is Australia’s Splendour in the Grass Music and Arts Festival ranks (7th) featuring headline artists Lizzo, J Balvin, Mumford & Sons, Flume and Lewis Capaldi.
