Meri Took and David Comer, owners of Staging Rentals & Construction (SRC), have announced they are closing the Sydney branch of the business effective April 2020.

Took, who has owned the business for 30 years, said the decision was a “heartfelt” one made after a lot of consideration.

“Due to a range of factors, David and I have decided that now is the time for us begin the next chapter,” he said.

However, Took noted it wasn’t the end for the company, which is well known for building large-scale sets and props for the opera, exhibitions, corporate events, and everything in between.

“SRC Melbourne will continue to operate and provide full custom-construction services and our full line of rental products,” he said.

“It is business as usual there and Rod Sultana, branch manager, will continue at the helm.

“David Comer and I will continue to own SRC, and as always, we welcome the opportunity to continue to support our industry friends and their events in any way we can.”

Took thanked the “enormous army” of people who have worked at SRC Sydney over the last 30 years, as well as the business arm’s past and present clients and partners.

“It has been quite a ride. I’m extremely proud of the work we have done and the relationships we have forged. And, we are also looking forward to a change of pace,” he said.

SRC’s Sydney construction workshop will operate until Wednesday 12 February, and Sydney rentals are available for events up until and including Friday 6 March. Purchase enquiries of Sydney stock and plant equipment are to be directed to Took.
