Sunshine Coast events return to celebrate 30 years of Mabo

Coinciding with National Reconciliation Week, the annual Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) Summit has been held at the Novotel Sunshine Coast Resort (30 May – 3 June).

The summit commemorates 30 years since the 1992 Mabo decision and has attracted over 1000 delegates and 300 speakers with 70 per cent of attendees indigenous.

Supported by the Business Events Sunshine Coast Assistance Program the theme of the summit is Navigating the spaces in between – foregrounding the brilliance and value of Indigenous ways of knowing, seeing and being in the world.

The annual AIATSIS Summit provides a unique forum for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, academics, native title stakeholders, legal experts, community and cultural sectors and government to collaborate in addressing current and future challenges. As well, it offers opportunities to support and strengthen Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, knowledge and governance.

The AIATSIS Summit brings together over five days the National Native Title and National Indigenous Research conferences.
