Sydney shows support for Sri Lanka with Opera House tribute

The Sydney Opera House was lit up in the colours of the Sri Lankan flag on Sunday night in a show of support for those affected by the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks.

“On Sunday we will light the sails of the Sydney Opera House as a symbol of solidarity, support and respect for the people of Sri Lanka. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks,” Premier Gladys Berejiklian said in a tweet on Wednesday.

The display paid tribute to the victims of the devastating Easter Sunday terrorist attacks which targeted several hotels and churches killing at least 250 people.

This comes as Sri Lankan president Maithripala Sirisena announced all of Sri Lanka’s Catholic churches will close and Muslim women will be ordered to stop wearing veils in public as the country introduces a set of strict new security measures as of today.
