The travel industry came together last week to check out all things Thailand at the Amazing Thailand Roadshow 2023 in Auckland, Melbourne and Sydney.

Put on by Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the event saw 40 Thai industry partners including hotels, attractions and tour operators, as well as major airlines get together to share the latest and greatest on Thailand destinations and products, and to discuss partnership opportunities and network.

Enticing the travel trade (outside of the incredible display of info) was the lavish array of premium canapes and beverages on offer, alongside some incredible prizes up for grabs.

At the roadshow, a presentation was given that revealed that 2023 is looking quite promising for the Australian market, considering currently recovery limitations. Australia ranked 12th on incoming international tourist numbers for 2022, with a whopping 319,346 travellers visiting Thailand last year (up from 9,577 in 2021).

It was also revealed that the capacity of direct flights servicing Australia to Thailand is currently at 80 per cent of 2019 levels, with 40 flights a week bringing 13,685 passengers over.

The presentation also touched on TAT’s marketing strategy, which aims to focus on repeat and first visitors, green tourism and special interest travellers looking for wellness, sporting, wedding and honeymoon holidays.

Finally, attendees were informed of Thailand’s product update for the Aussie travel trade.

The presentation highlighted the classic of Bangkok, such as the Grand Palace and Chatuchak Market, and what’s new(ish), including Benjakitti Forest Park and Jodd Fairs – a night market located in Rama 9.

The natural wonders and history of Kanchanaburi were highlighted and the array of new and old of Phuket and its surrounding regions were presented.

Boutique luxury offerings at Samui were on display by TAT and the iconic Chiang Mai, with its mountainous northern charm, got a shoutout.

Following the presentation, some prizes were drawn and it was all smiles from the happy attendees.
