Visit Victoria’s first-ever CEO resigns

Peter Bingeman has tendered his resignation as CEO of Victoria’s primary tourism and events company.

Bingeman has overseen Visit Victoria since its establishment in July 2016, supporting the Labor government’s Victorian Visitor Economy Strategy and related programs to boost tourism and enhance the benefits that the industry provides to the state.

He will stay in his position until after the Presidents Cup, the latest of Victoria’s major events. Bingeman’s resignation will take effect from 17 December.

Victoria’s Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events, Martin Pakula, thanked Bingeman for his leadership during Visit Victoria’s formative years.

“Peter has done a fantastic job guiding Visit Victoria in its crucial first years, helping to build our state’s very important visitor economy, and the government thanks him for his hard work and leadership,” he said.

Visit Victoria chair Janet Whiting said: “As its first CEO, Peter has steered Visit Victoria to become a leading tourism and events company that has delivered record growth in Victoria’s visitor economy.

“The board of Visit Victoria thanks Peter for his leadership and wishes him the very best in his next endeavours.”

Commenting on his departure, Bingeman said: “It has been a privilege to lead Visit Victoria and help grow our tourism and events industries over the past three-and-a-half years.”

“I am honoured to have led a team that has made a significant impact on Victoria’s visitor economy and reputation as a global events state, and I’m confident that the future of tourism is bright.”
