The $500 million-plus indoor snow resort, Winter Sports World, will announce two key operators at the 14th annual NSW Major Projects Conference this week.

Dubbed “the giant Esky”’, Winter Sports World is one of the largest new attraction projects currently in Australia and the biggest ever in Western Sydney.

Winter Sports World managing director, Peter Magnisalis, is set to announce the selected food and beverage operator and snow and ski attraction operator during his presentation on the second day of the conference at the International Convention Centre Sydney on August 22, 2024.

The annual conference attracts more than 200 of the who’s who of the major infrastructure project industry. It includes all tiers of government, urban and rural developers, construction contractors, road, rail and port authorities, environmental, engineering and project management consultants, projects planners and developers, banking, finance and law, architects and designers, suppliers, and economists.

Topics covered in this year’s conference include Western Sydney Aerotropolis (vision for Western Sydney), schools infrastructure program, new Barangaroo Metro Station, Sydney Airport Gateway, the NSW State Infrastructure Strategy, Inland Rail Project update, and a Sydney Metro update.

Peter Magnisalis will outline the tangible benefits of the project to Western Sydney:

  • Over 2,724 new jobs during construction and operational phases.
  • Inject $222 million annually into the local economy, contributing $2.5 billion over the next decade.
  • Double visitation and local tourism economy for Penrith with 1.35 million additional visitors.

He will also describe the building inside and out, connection to local Dharug culture and Country, what visitors can expect to experience and how Winter Sports World will position Western Sydney as a global tourist destination.

“This is a transformational piece of tourism and social infrastructure befitting Australia’s newest global gateway, Western Sydney International Airport, just 12km away.

“Winter Sports World will change the Penrith and Western Sydney landscape in a way and to such a degree that the whole world will sit up and take notice,” he said. “We are on track to begin construction in 2025.”

Using real snow, Winter Sports World will include:

  • A 300m advanced open run for experienced skiers and snow boarders, learn to ski runs and a dedicated winter wonderland snow play area.
  • Competition venue for snow sports such as alpine skiing.
  • Ice climbing and crevasse outdoor rock climbing.
  • 4-star 170-room hotel, conference and function rooms.
  • Restaurant and cafes with snow views.

Further announcements will be made in September and October regarding the hotel operator and venue builder.
