Ideally situated in the island city-state’s central district, the project is located in the eclectic heart of Chinatown where socialising, dining and nightlife take center stage.
Six Senses Singapore is split across two buildings that are an easy wander apart. Six Senses Duxton and Six Senses Maxwell will mark the brand’s first city hotels, celebrating local Singapore culture and history while adding a touch of playfulness to the heritage properties. There is a diverse mix of Chinese, Malay and European elements in the buildings including neo-classical lion head motifs, Chinese porcelain-chip friezes co-existing with Malay timber fretwork, French windows, Portuguese shutters and Corinthian pilasters. Guests can make full use of all facilities and outstanding service in both, as well as the rich local community in between. No matter where you sleep, guests can sign for services at either hotel and will consider both locations – their home away from home.
The Peninsula Hotels Chinese New Year Festivities
The Peninsula Shanghai welcomes the Year of The Dog with colourful customs and traditions. An annual highlight of The Peninsula Shanghai festivities is a spectacular Lion Dance performance featuring drumming and cymbal clashes by the award-winning Xia Guo Zhang troupe from Hong Kong in The Lobby on 16 Feb. Guests will also be welcomed by 6.5-metre-high, Chinese paper-cut window decorations featuring traditional Chinese patterns.
From 1 February to 21 February, The Peninsula Paris invites guests and visitors alike to discover The Peninsula Hotels through the works of the celebrated photographer, Annie Leibowitz. Leibowitz turned her lens behind the scenes at the hotels, thus immortalising the most striking Peninsula moments, combining glamour and photojournalism in her own distinctive style for a campaign in 2004 and 2009. 12 extraordinary black and white photographs will be on display in the public areas of the hotel.
On February 16, at The Peninsula Tokyo Lobby and Hei Fung Terrace, guests will be thrilled by traditional Chinese lion dances and performances by a seven-stringed guqin zither musician. Witness the vibrant energy and entrancing drum beat of the spectacular lion dance, said to ward off evil spirits and usher in good luck for the new year. Following Chinese customs, diners both young and old will receive a lucky red envelope to take home as a memento of a truly special Spring Festival experience. Staying guests can enjoy a taste of the festivities with Chinese Festive menus offered on the Room Service menu between February 15 to 17, while savoury radish cakes will be served with breakfast at The Lobby on February 16.
The Peninsula Chicago welcomes the New Year with a traditional lion dance on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 3:15 pm at The Peninsula Chicago’s front entrance amid a joyful atmosphere, while loud drumbeats and strong cymbal crashes scare away evil spirits. The lion troupe will then make its way down The Gallery on the hotel’s main 5th floor lobby, weaving through the tables in The Lobby during Afternoon Tea at 3:30 pm. Children are invited to “feed” lettuce to the lion, representing good luck for the coming year!
Holiday Décor to Bring Fortune and Luck To let guests soak up the holiday atmosphere while they are away from home, The Peninsula Chicago will be adorned with red lanterns and Year of the Dog décor throughout the hotel. The colour red represents joy and luck in Chinese culture, and so the hotel’s facade will be illuminated in red, adding to the spirit of the season. The Lobby will be decked with red flowers and tangerine trees, representing good fortune.
Guest rooms will also feature festive customs, including a red packet containing a large chocolate coin that will be placed in all guest rooms during turn-down service on Thursday, February 15, the eve of Chinese New Year. Traditionally, Chinese customs are to place a red packet with lucky money underneath the pillow on the eve of the New Year to wish for a healthy and prosperous year.
