Border uncertainty forces MEA to postpone Evolve until 2022

Meetings & Events Australia (MEA) has made the difficult decision to defer its annual conference to 2022.

The 37th iteration of Evolve was originally due to take place on 8 September at the Sofitel Melbourne On Collins, with Disney’s former innovation chief, Duncan Wardle, named as the headline speaker.

However, MEA said the continuing challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic “necessitated decisive leadership and action” on its part, resulting in the postponement of the conference.

“The primary factor for this decision is the uncertainty around border restrictions right across the country and the limitations it poses on travel to attend events in-person,” MEA said in a statement.

“Our annual national awards ceremony will proceed as a virtual broadcast on Wednesday 22 September from 7pm.

“This is an important celebration to recognise and reward the incredible work of our industry peers from their 2020 events, and we look forward to welcoming you all online.”
