Accor celebrates 30 years

Accor celebrates 30 years
By admin

Accor last week celebrated its 30th year in the Asia Pacific with the addition of yet another hotel to its rapidly expanding network.

Starting from humble beginnings with just one property in 1982, Accor's Asia Pacific network has expanded to reach 550 hotels by the end of the year.

The hotel group is now the market leader in Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia and Thailand, and dominates the hotel sector in South Korea and Vietnam.

Celebrating the 30 year milestone with the opening of the new Novotel Goa Shrem Resort in India last week, Accor Asia Pacific chairman Michael Issenberg pointed to a number of achievements in recent months.

"As we look back on our first three decades in the region, we also celebrate a bumper year for Accor in Asia Pacific, shattering the records we set last year," he said. "In May, we announced our 500th hotel in the region. In June, we added 43 hotels in Australia and New Zealand, and in September we passed the 100,000 room threshold."

Issenberg said Accor was on track to achieving its goal of operating 700 hotels in the Asia Pacific by 2015, and added that brand diversity was the key to the group's success.

"One of the things that sets Accor apart from our competitors is our ability to offer a comprehensive portfolio of hotels, from luxury to budget, to cater for the needs for a vast range of travellers," he said. "We have also made significant enhancements to each of the brands, setting the pace in their respective market sectors."

Accor operates nearly 3,500 hotels worldwide across 92 countries.
