MEA Industry Awards take the cake

The Meetings & Events Australia (MEA) 2012 National Conference came to a close last week with the 2011 National Industry Awards gala dinner hosted at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre (SCEC). Over 650 industry professionals attended the black tie event designed to reward outstanding team and individual achievements within the industry.

A total of 34 awards were handed out during the evening, with MEA chief executive officer Linda Gaunt present on the night to congratulate winners.

Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre (SCEC) scooped four awards across a number of different categories, including its banquet and catering service. The centre also shared the spotlight with Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre (BCEC) for the corporate social responsibility award.

BCEC’s $140 million expansion was commended with the award for Australia’s best meeting venue catering for 500 delegates or more.

Meanwhile, Staging Connections were the proud recipients of the inaugural education award and had a virtual audience cheering them on via a live webcast. Staging Connections also created an online portal of the night that allowed an international audience to view the event, including pre-ceremony highlights and acceptance speeches.

With another year under the belt for MEA, the hard work begins again for industry members to contend for next year’s awards. Here are a roundup of images from the evening.
