IHG continues Victorian expansion with Holiday Inn Dandenong

IHG Hotels & Resorts is set to open a new Holiday Inn to continue its push into suburban and regional Victoria.

The company has signed the Holiday Inn Dandenong with hotel owners Pelligra Group, making them one of IHG’s largest owners in Australasia.

Formerly the Ramada Encore by Wyndham Dandenong, the hotel will undergo a $10 million state-of-the-art refurbishment, and open as a next-generation Holiday Inn in April 2022.

This will include all 108 guestrooms receiving a major refurbishment, plus an additional 18 new rooms added. The lobby will be completely transformed, incorporating Holiday Inn’s ‘Open Lobby’ concept, designed to bring people together in a convivial setting.

Holiday Inn is expected to add significant value to the property post-transformation, taking it from a limited-service hotel to a completely refreshed, full-service upper-midscale positioning under the globally recognised brand.

Located around 30 kilometres from Melbourne, Holiday Inn Dandenong will be a central hub for visitors in a bustling growth area with new infrastructure projects, big business headquarters, universities and potentially a new $110 million, 15,00-seat sports stadium and events centre.

In 2006, the Victorian government announced a 15-year, $290 million ‘Revitalising Central Dandenong’ (RCD) program aimed at improving the general amenity of the Dandenong CBD and re-establishing the city centre as the capital of Melbourne’s growing southeast region.

Holiday Inn Dandenong will be located only a few metres from the centre of the RCD initiative, and will be a vibrant and welcomed addition to the precinct.

IHG’s director of development for Australasia and Pacific, Jael Fischer, said the Holiday Inn brand has undergone a huge, global transformation over the last 18 months.

“This will be our fifth hotel with the Pelligra Group, and we are honoured to be working with the team again to bring this completely refurbished Holiday Inn to the Dandenong community and build on our network in Victoria,” she said.

According to Ross Pelligra from Pelligra Group, its the location of the property that makes it special.

“Having the internationally recognised Holiday Inn brand attached to our hotel will be of great benefit as domestic and international travel returns, and we are proud to be continuing our partnership with IHG,” he said.

Holiday Inn Dandenong will join the 42 open or pipeline Holiday Inn brand family hotels in Australasia and the Pacific.

The news continues IHG’s rapid growth across Victoria, following the opening of Holiday Inn Werribee and upcoming Holiday Inn openings in Geelong, Ringwood, Richmond, Melbourne’s Bourke Street Mall and Ballarat.
