New app allows luggage check-in from home

For a while, I was struggling to have her pose for me. Recently however, she asks me to take pictures of her. This is one of those. I had my camera and she requested that I take a picture of her. She made faces like this and asked me to show it to her right after.I won't complain when it's that easy ;)

Lufthansa and German luggage maker Rimowa have developed an embedded digital bag tag that allows travellers to check in their luggage from home or on the way to airport using the airline’s app.

The Rimowa Electronic Tag can be updated via Bluetooth by passengers using their smartphones. It stores the same information as the traditional paper tag which it replaces.

The Lufthansa app generates the data which is sent to the digital tag during the check-in process, meaning the suitcase then only needs to be placed on the belt at the Lufthansa baggage drop-off counter.

The electronic tag is bonded to the suitcase, making it more secure, since the important information is better protected against humidity, heat, low temperatures and impact, and cannot be torn off. Outwardly, it has the same shape and size as a paper tag.

Lufthansa is the first airline to provide this service. It should become available from the beginning of next year.
