The Big Cheese with Cvent Australia’s Chela Evans

This week, we caught up with Cvent Australia’s director of sales on The Big Cheese couch.

The great thing about my job is…

Being at the cutting edge, where technology and people come together to create space for big ideas and organisational synergies.

The challenge for the industry is…

Enriching the community through sustainability, equality, inclusion, and diversity.

My greatest achievement is…

Playing part in the international growth story of Cvent: from the early days in our international HQ in India, leading a multi-lingual sales team; to today, helping build the Cvent Australia team in Melbourne. Also, representing Cvent at hundreds of events in 23 countries has been amazing!

The biggest thing in MICE this year will be…

Cvent CONNECT 2020 in Vegas and London! And here in Australia, we will be rallying around #EventHereThisYear.

I try to relax by…

Walking along the banks of the Birrarung, listening to the sounds of nature.

I don’t understand why…

The internet in Australia is so slow!

My favourite venue/destination is…

Far North Queensland – Fitzroy Island, Mossman Gorge and Cape Tribulation.

I’ve always wanted to travel to…

Uluru.

I am scared to death of…

Being in one place for too long.

I can’t live without…

Travel, music and family.

I really wish I had…

A dog.

If I could invite four people to a dinner party, they’d be…

Fearless women – Emmeline Pankhurst, Gladys Elphick, Sirojini Naidu, and Frida Kahlo.

For anyone starting out in the industry, one piece of advice I’d give would be…

Be curious, be patient and put in the work. My first career mentor at Flight Centre, Lisa Flannery, shared a Mark Twain quote with me in 2002 that has always resonated since: “Go out on a limb, that’s where all the fruit is.”
