The Big Cheese with Jo Finnigan, General Manager, Hotel St Moritz Queenstown

Jo takes some time out to talk the three Ps – want to know what they are? Then read on…

The great thing about my job is… Just three ‘P’s’… the People, the Place, and the Pace!  First and foremost I adore working with the talented team here at Hotel St Moritz, and welcoming the infinite variety of guests staying to experience Queenstown is a daily thrill.  I count myself as incredibly fortunate to live and work in this stunning alpine resort and thoroughly enjoy the demanding pace and variety being a hotelier brings.

The challenge for industry is… continuously striving for quality and being unrelenting in the demand for it.

My greatest achievement is… Is it too predictable to say ‘my sons’? My two boys are so cool.

The biggest thing in MICE this year will be… genuinely delivered wellbeing & sustainability initiatives.

I try to relax by… Venturing into the mountains – I love to run (I should say trot really), mountain bike, snowboard and paddle-board.

I don’t understand why… poverty even exists

My favourite venue is… The Library at Hotel St Moritz – a glass of central otago pinot noir, fireplace and view of The Remarkables  ….

I’ve always wanted to travel to… Tokyo, and in fact I have just returned from there yesterday … next on my list is Vietnam!

I am scared to death of… birds inside the house

I can’t live without… Lindt “A Touch of Sea Salt” chocolate

I really wish I had… kept playing the piano

If I could invite four people to a dinner party, they’d be… Alfred Hitchock, Frida Kahlo, David Bowie, Sergei Rachmaninoff

For anyone starting out in the industry one piece of advice I’d give would be …. Have passion for what you’re doing, and always ‘people first’.
