The Big Cheese with Robert Miletic

InterContinental’s new area director of sales & marketing South Pacific takes some time out of his new role overseeing a portfolio of three properties – the InterContinental Fiji, Holiday Inn Suva and the Holiday Inn Vanuatu – to have a chat to The Nibbler.

The great thing about my job is… The culture, people and the opportunity to live and work in an amazing destination such as Fiji.

The challenge for industry is… Talent.  Nurture and develop talent….the best investment we can make is in our people.

My greatest achievement is… Purchasing a property in the Sydney market before prices went crazy.

The biggest thing in MICE this year will be… Providing unique and local experiences to inspire delegates, an important part of our InterContinental Meetings hallmark.

I try to relax by… Spending quality time with family and friends.

I don’t understand why… There is so much violence on the news today.

My favourite venue is… The Alluvial Laneway Event Space at InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto,  located under the glass atrium on a historic Melbourne laneway which connects the historic Winfield and Rialto wings in Alluvial restaurant.  I have a soft spot for the hotel as I was part of the pre-opening team in 2008.

I’ve always wanted to travel to… Petra, the UNESCO World Heritage Centre in Jordan. The beauty of the landscapes, rich history and skillfully constructed architecture makes this a definite travel destination on my bucket list.

I am scared to death of… The depletion of natural resources for the future generations

I can’t live without… Anything “Apple” – From my iPhone to my Mac – you name it!

I really wish I had… A super yacht

If I could invite four people to a dinner party, they’d be… Larry Page or Sergey Brin (co-founders of Google), Bernard Arnault (CEO of LVMH, Paris), Pope Francis and Barack Obama

For anyone starting out in the industry one piece of advice I’d give would be…. Be open to learning, work hard and don’t ever burn any bridges with your collegues or clients.
