The Big Cheese with Ryan Dillon of Spicers Retreats

The new general manager of Spicers Retreats’ The Guest House Hunter Valley takes some time out from his new role to talk unique experiences, finding the right staff and a fear of snakes.

The great thing about my job is… Meeting guests from all different parts of the world

The challenge for industry is… Finding skilled staff and finding staff with the right attitude that want to learn.

My greatest achievement is… Getting married to my beautiful wife Cas!

The biggest thing in MICE this year will be… Unique Experiences – sure there are thousands of venues offering the same old conference room however companies are looking outside the box to make their events and conferences productive, exciting, engaging and different.  The Guest House Hunter Valley is the perfect venue to help create those unique experiences.

I try to relax by… Going for a run.

I don’t understand why… My golf drive always has a slight fade?

My favourite venue is… Ivy Hotel Sydney – lots of cool bars and restaurants.

I’ve always wanted to travel to… Switzerland to go snow skiing.

I am scared to death of… Snakes!

I can’t live without… Sport.

I really wish I had… A ski resort closer to where I live.

If I could invite four people to a dinner party, they’d be… Barack Obama, Bono, Matthew Hayden & Tiger Woods.

For anyone starting out in the industry one piece of advice I’d give would be… Work hard and keep pushing.
