Tickets on sale for Whitsundays’ event of the year

Tickets are now on sale for the 2016 Whitsunday Tourism Awards, with the celebration to be held at Cape Gloucester Beach Resort on Saturday 29th October.

Showcasing the hidden gems of the beautiful Whitsunday Coast with a unique beach glamour theme, tourism’s night of nights will be the gala event of the year with over 21 categories up for grabs for gold, silver and bronze.

The Voice’s Aaliyah Warren, a local Mackay singer and one of Australia’s favourite contestants from Season 5 of the Channel 9 hit show, will headline the Awards night, while popular local band Sun Salute will get the party started once the awards ceremony has finished.

Celebrating the return of Tourism Whitsundays, this year each ticket will include champagne on arrival, all-inclusive beverages, substantial canapés and free bus transfers between Airlie Beach and Cape Gloucester.

Tourism Whitsundays’ CEO, Craig Turner, said tickets to the gala event will sell out fast.

“We are expecting hundreds of tourism operators to attend on the night and celebrate the past year, as well as recognising those who strive for excellence in the industry,” Turner said.

“Thanks to our major sponsor partners, Paradise Outdoor Advertising and Whitsunday Regional Council, and our valuable supporters, we can offer guests a fantastic night of live entertainment and glamour on the beach.”

The Awards celebrate individual achievements in the pursuit of excellence in tourism, and acknowledge businesses and individuals that through their efforts and support have helped to grow the Whitsunday region as a must-see international destination.

Approximately 30 awards will be presented on the night, including best in ‘Adventure Tourism’, ‘Unique Accommodation’, ‘Major Tour and Transport Operators’ and ‘New Tourism Business’, along with the prestigious ‘Bob Porter Award’ which recognises the outstanding contribution by an individual.

Entrants for the annual Awards night go through a stringent judging process, covering all areas of their business, with criteria based on the Queensland Tourism Awards process.
